Beats Workin (the band)

– If I could go back in time or be in any of these groups today, Beats Workin would hands-down be the one I would pick. This combination of guys would set the standard for the rest of my life. Not just as musicians, but as friends and comrades. We had all been in various bands together prior to this band. But, this particular group fit me like a glove. And, once we went our separate ways (for higher education and grown-up reasons I would rather not have had to contend with) I had some serious choices to make as a drummer without a band. But, that’s a story for another time.
We only played for two summers, primarily as the house band at The Filling Station in the resort community of Seeley Lake, Montana. During the summer of 85′ Beats Workin left it’s mark on a lot of young lives and solidified life-long friendships. Two of the guys met their future wives there! But, me? I just wanted to play the drums and the field. Truth is I didn’t know how to land the girl of my dreams. haha. But again, that’s a different story. I actually ended up living rather recklessly. It was fantastic and tragic. Wonderful and fleeting. Luckily no one got hurt. Much. It was a memorable time for four happy-go-lucky, young Montana boys who made some great music together. That’s for sure…
The members of the band were –
– Jeff Christiansen on keyboards, guitar and lead vocals,
– Chuck Fulcher on bass guitar, harmonica and lead vocals,
– Dan Neuman on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, lap steel and vocals,
– Mike Turnbull on drums, vocals, and voted least likely to be the designated driver.
